Choosing the Right Dermaroller
For home use, titanium dermarollers are recommended over stainless steel ones. While stainless steel is preferable in a medical environment, it poses a risk if dropped at home. If you drop a stainless steel dermaroller, you might have to throw it away since it's difficult to see if the pins are bent. Titanium dermarollers, on the other hand, can be disinfected and reused after being dropped, offering a longer lifespan and more practicality for home use.
Using the Dermaroller
The recommended needle depth for treating hair loss is generally 1.5mm. Here's how to effectively use a dermaroller:
Preparation: If you're targeting thinning around the anterior hairline or sides, ensure the area is clean and dry. Part the hair to expose the scalp.
Application:
Press down on the scalp in a star-shaped pattern, rolling five times in each direction: vertically, horizontally, and diagonally.
Move up slightly and overlap the previous section to ensure full coverage.
Continue this pattern across the targeted area, carefully parting the hair as you go.
For areas further back on the scalp, part the hair, hold it down, and apply the dermaroller in the same star-shaped pattern.
Frequency and Pressure
Using a dermaroller 1 to 2 times a week is effective, but often, less is more. Once a week is usually sufficient:
Pressure: Apply enough pressure to create a lesion without drawing blood. If blood is drawn, reduce the pressure. The goal is to stimulate growth factors, stem cells, collagen, and blood supply without causing excessive damage.
Post-Rolling Care
After dermarolling:
Wait to Apply Products: Do not apply any products immediately after the procedure. It's best to wait 24 hours before applying any hair care products.
Clean Hair: Perform the dermarolling on freshly washed hair for optimal results.
By following these guidelines, you can effectively use a dermaroller to enhance hair growth and manage hair loss without getting your hair tangled in the device. Good luck on your hair loss journey!
