Does Brushing Less Reduce Hair Loss?

The simple answer is no.

Here's a breakdown:

  1. Shedding Is Natural:

    • Hair goes through a natural shedding phase (telogen phase), and once a hair has reached this stage, it's going to shed, whether you brush it or not.

  2. Brushing Frequency Doesn’t Affect Shedding:

    • Avoiding brushing your hair may prevent you from seeing the shed hair, but it doesn't reduce the actual shedding. If you skip brushing, the shed hair will eventually fall out during washing, being exposed to wind, or during your next brushing session.

  3. Psychological Effect:

    • Some people may feel less anxious when they don’t see hair falling out while brushing, but in reality, the same amount of hair will shed regardless of whether you brush regularly.

  4. What Should You Do?:

    • If your hair feels better after brushing, you should continue brushing it as it won’t impact the shedding process. However, if not brushing makes you feel less stressed about hair loss, that’s okay too, as it won’t affect the overall amount of hair you lose.

In essence, brushing your hair won’t stop or cause additional shedding—it’s just a matter of timing when the shed hairs fall out.
